Carving a Wax Model, Adult Credit Free Course

Building a wax model is the first step of the lost wax casting process. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned jeweller this class is sure to be informative, experimental and fun! Students will be introduced to wax wire, wax sheet, molten wax and wax blocks as the building materials for their wax models. You will learn how to cut, form, texture and carve the material into pendants, rings, earrings or small sculptures using a variety of improvised tools perfect for the beginner’s budget to industry standard tools. Participants will leave this workshop with at least two wax models ready for casting into metal.

Time: 6.30 p.m. –- 9.30 p.m. (Fri), 9.00 a.m. –- 4.00 p.m. (Saturday & Sunday)

Create wax models of pendants, rings, earrings, or small sculptures of you own designs. You will be introduced to a number of different wax forms for building your models so that you can choose what works best for your models. Use a variety of improvised tools, perfect for the beginner,to industry standard ones to cut, carve, and texture your models. At the end of the workshop you will have two wax models ready for casting.
Wire II, Advanced Wire Jewellery, Adult Credit Free Course

Prerequisite: Beginner's Wire Jewellery Workshop or equivalent experience

Ready to take your wire wrapping, bending and twisting to a new level? Enhance your technical skills in this area with supervised studio time and demonstrations. Learn how to apply your skills to more complex designs. Vary your visual vocabulary with different textures and work with found objects to create unique compositions. Concentrate on finishing your beautiful creations with secure clasps and surface finishes including different patinas. Learn about presenting your work in a professional manner to shops & galleries.
